Great fried seafood - my boyfriend and I always get the half & half combo and then share. Plenty of leftovers that you will be eating for a couple days! We love the fried mushrooms with their horseradish sauce, and the sweet potato fries! We'll keep going back, like usual!

A good family restaurant in an area without a lot of good restaurant choices. We love the free bread. The entrees we've had so far are pretty good too, but certainly not amazing (steak tips were pretty good, as was the chicken sandwich). Caesar salad was slightly above average. Prices are reasonable. I say give this place a shot if you find yourself in this area.

I thought this place was nice. Food and portions were really good. Service was great! Clean tables and booths, carpet needed vacuuming but it was end of night. No real complaints! Will go back!

Our family use to love this place. We went tonight and was disappointed. The portions have gone way down. My wife ordered the haddock nugget plate and got 4 pieces of haddock and a plate of fries. I ordered the steak tips and got 5 tips and a plate of fries. It's to bad, never again for for what we paid for.

my husband and I went there the other night to meet up with his parents for dinner. we arrived first and despite there only being 3 parties there, they refused to seat us. even when we told them we were going to order beer and an appetizer until they arrived. one server was shocked when the night manager refused to seat us and said I have plenty of tables ill take them and she said "no its policy we cant seat you until your whole party is here". I couldn't believe it. we called his parents and said meet us at applebees and walked out. I've never been so disrespected. and I assume that the waitresses cant make too much on slow nights if that's the policy. our bill would've been higher meaning a bigger tip if they had just let us sit down and get something to drink and eat while we waited.

Wonderful seafood, fish chowder, breads Service is excellent, portions are ample!! Off the beaten path in north Berwick Maine. Prices are so reasonable. Locals fill this place - which is a good sign! Try the baked stuffed haddock!!!

Been here a few times in the past 5 years. Just happened to come here twice in the past two weeks. I have to say I was disappointed. I ordered Baked Haddock these past two times for lunch. Baked Haddock is a staple for most restaurants that serve seafood in Maine. I have never had portions so small in my life. The quality was good and the fish was fresh. The problem was that the piece was less than 4" square both times I ordered. This wasn't a lunch special either. Full price menu and it should have been at least twice the size. On my second trip I asked about substituting onion rings for the potato and was told they don't allow onion ring substitutions period. How about an upcharge? A flat-out no? It will be a while before I go back.

I was visiting some friends in NH and we were looking for a place to each seafood. Sadly yelp didn't have too many places listed, or the places that were listed weren't open at this time of the year. We came across Johnson's and decided to give it a gamble. It was a cold Saturday night and we restaurant wasn't too busy. Our group of 5 was seated immediately in a large booth. The atmosphere was pretty casual. Our waitress was fast, attentive, and very polite. She apologized each time she had to reach over someone. The food was good, but definitely more on the heavier side. For starters we had ordered soup, onion rings, and fried mushrooms. The onion rings and the fried mushrooms, were extremely generous portions- we couldn't finish it, but it tasted good and greasy :) For my meal I had the baked scallops, that came with a baked potatos and coleslaw. The scallops were in a buttery sauce and came with fried bread crumbs sprinkled on top. I thought I was getting something healthier, but it really wasn't. The coleslaw was an interesting bright green, maybe thats how green the cabbage is in Maine? The food was so heavy that we didn't have room for dessert- though the dessert menu did look good, I noticed a ginger bread pudding. The food was alright and the service was good. I think next time I head to Maine, I'd try another restaurant.

Over the past year or two, this place has tweaked it's menu and now I am a fan! I have to say the portions are large, the seafood fresh and I've always left with a doggy bag. I love the onion nuggets, like onion rings, only more.....divine. The breaded chicken tenders are my other fav, the husband enjoys the fish and chips.
(4)Brit L.
Great food. The steak tips are wonderful and tender. The sides are simple and limited. They close early most nights (8:00) and extend their closing time by an hour in the summer time. It's often busy on Friday and Saturday nights, there is usually a wait time. We go here often and always have a great meal.

Good portions, good food. Friendly staff, can't go wrong.

This is a great option if you want traditional Maine meals. Especially nice as the tourists haven't found it. It is six miles off Route 1 from Wells and the drive is shorter than a wait at the Maine Diner in Wells, e.g. Was pleased with various orders (ate there 3 times): fried clams, scallops (baked and fried), salads, etc.
